A personality crisis. With a plumbing explanation.
AN EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION · NOT HISTORICAL OUTPUTAugust 2026
The quick replies were flat. The obvious suspect was the personality setting: turn up the wit, make the instructions stronger, try again.
But the setting was already there. The intended response path had no chat model available and was quietly falling back to canned acknowledgments. The replies being judged were not coming from the path being tuned.
The useful change was visibility: record which path produced a line, and make the fallback say why it happened. Before adjusting the personality, check who actually spoke.
A behavior problem can be a connection problem.
